Blackwood Brothers with JD Sumner

Yay, Weekend is here !

I have a long weekend this weekend. I had planned on getting so much done but you know how that goes. I was really lazy yesterday.I quess you have to have days like that too. I have been putting in overtime this past week, so I guess I needed a lazy day.

Alex and Nicole are home for the weekend. Ryan came out yesterday morning and him and Casey played some Rock Band. Then Alex and Nicole came out (they stayed by her parents Friday night)and they all went out and had paintball wars most of the afternoon. Sarah came out after she got off work. I made homemade pizza for supper and Ryan, Sarah, Duane and I watched a movie. While Alex, Nicole and Casey listened to music videos on computer, and checked out Alex's new game.

Joann sent over some homemade vegetable soup yesterday. She made a big batch and said she had way too much, so we are having homemade vegetable soup and turkey sandwiches for dinner today.

Andrea V.V. called Duane last night and asked if he would do Sunday School Treasurer tomorrow (Loren has been doing it for him since his surgery). Lorens back has been bothering him, I don't know what he did but he must have done something to it last week sometime.

Brandon called Friday night wondering where the north walk in was. Thursday at work he was cutting a plug off a tire(he had just put a new blade in it)and the box knife slipped and jabbed into his finger. On Friday morning it was looking pretty nasty he said the meat was pushing out,so he decided he better get it looked at. The doctor said it was too late to stich it but he cleaned it out, butterflied it and put him on antibiotics. After he got done at the clinic he was going to go home and him and Josh were going to grill steaks. I think Julie was working, but I'm not sure.

Duane has a doctors appointment on Monday, hopefully the doctor will tell him his sternum is healed but I wouldn't bet on it because it still bothers him sometimes yet.

I have Monday off so I will be able to take him up and hopefully get some shopping done too. I have a short week next week, I took the 3rd and 4th off so I'll only be working 2 days next week. I'm not sure if thats a good idea or not, when your out a few days its hard to jump right back in because you get backlogged with email and get new meetings opening etc.. I requested these days when we first started and I didn't know I would be out for 6 weeks. But I think I'm up to speed enough now it shouldnt be too terrible hard to be out 4 days.

Well better go get ready for Church. Have a good weekend.

Resurrection Sunday Story Cookies

You need:
1 c. whole pecans
1 tsp. vinegar
3 egg whites
pinch salt
1 c. sugar
zipper baggie
wooden spoon
tape
Bible

Preheat oven to 300 F. (this is important - don't wait till you are half way done with the recipe!) Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested he was beaten by the Roman soldiers.

Read John 19: 1-3

Let each child smell the vinegar. Put 1 tsp. vinegar into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross he was given vinegar to drink.

Read John 19: 28-30

Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gvae his life to give us life.

Read John: 10: 10-11

Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sin.

Read Luke 23: 27

So far the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1 c. sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him.

Read Ps. 34: 8 and John 3: 16.

Beat with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus.

Read Isa. 1: 18 and John 3: 1-3.

Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper covered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid.

Read Matt. 17: 57-60.

Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the oven OFF. Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed.

Read Matt. 27: 65-66.

GO TO BED! Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed.

Read John 16: 20 and 22.

On Easter morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the first Easter Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty.

Read Matt. 28: 1-9.

HE HAS RISEN!

Gelukkige Pasen

Everybody get out your Dutch to English dictionary. I did so I could write this post.

Op van het graf kwan hij voort. Christus is gestegen.

"Ik kwan dat zij leven zullen misschien hebben en heb het overvloedig." John 10:10

Jezus beminnen(s) jou en ook weer doen wij.

De Dyk familie wenst iedereen een heel Gelukkige Pasen. Duane, Betty and Casey

Ribeyes

Alex and Nicole came home this past weekend. Alex came in the door and said look what I got, here he had two packages of Ribeyes. Four in each package and weighing a pound each. Wow, I just love steak. I'm not suppose to eat it much anymore, but I don't think once in awhile hurts. Everything in moderation right? Anyway I grilled them Saturday night for supper along with potatoes wrapped in tin foil. Man were the steaks good. I could eat steak almost everyday. I think they were over an inch thick. Ryan and Sarah also came out Saturday and stayed for supper.

Alex and Nicole left after supper to visit Nicole's folks. I think they left for Bismarck sometime Sunday. Alex got a job in maintenance at the National Guard Armory in Bismarck. Don't know for sure when he starts. He has been working there partime already. Nicole's Dad has been working there for 10 years.

Brandon couldn't come home this past weekend. He had to work Saturday.

Not much else going on.

Howdy,
How's everybody doing. Everything here is going pretty good. I keep feeling stronger all the time. I did have a little set back though. Our computer chair leans back and when I leaned forward to get myself out of the chair I must have done something different because it hurt. I have been doing that on my own for one or two weeks already. Anyway it's beeen hurting for the last four or five days. It's just now starting to feel better again.

Brandon, Alex and Nicole came home this weekend. Ryan and Sarah also came from Linton. Casey just bought Rock Band for his Playstation 2. They spent most of the weekend playing that and Twisted Metal. They also have Guitar Hero 1,2 & 3. I don't know who's familiar with Rock Band but it comes with a microphone, one guitar and a drum set. You can play the game with any single instrument or all of them. Ryan usually ends up being the singer, Casey on drums with Alex, Nicole and Sarah switching around on the bass and guitar. Although they do switch around on the drums, too. It's alot of fun watching them play. They use one of the guitars from Guitar Hero for the bass guitar. Ryan does a good job singing, he must get it from Grandpa, he sure doesn't get it from me. Even when they play and nobody is singing he will sing without the microphone.

Betty says work is starting to get better. They decided to have somebody sit with her when she's on the phone.

It's a boy, our first calf that is. He was born on the 4th of march, weighed 78 pounds and was 49 inches long from nose to tail and 24 inches tall. I really have no idea how much he weighed, much less how tall or long he was or is. Just trying to be funny. Weird sense of humor, I have.

Time to get off the computer, me thinks.

Love, The Dyks
